Why I Started Writing

Golden sunrise over a vast prairie, warm amber and pink light stretching across open fields, hopeful and quiet, soft morning mist, cinematic landscape

For a long time, writing was something I told myself I would do someday.

Someday when life slowed down.

Someday when I had more time.

Someday when I felt ready.

But life has a funny way of reminding you that “someday” isn’t guaranteed.

Over the years, I found myself carrying more and more stories inside me.

Stories about grief.

Motherhood.

Marriage.

Starting over.

Building businesses.

Becoming someone completely different from the person I thought I would be.

And the little moments in between all of it.

Eventually, writing stopped feeling like something I wanted to do and started feeling like something I needed to do.

There were thoughts that needed somewhere to live outside of my own head.

There were memories I wanted my children to have someday.

There were things I had survived that I finally understood differently once I saw them written on a page.

That is where so much of my writing began.

Not with the goal of becoming an author.

Not with a perfectly planned book.

Just with honesty.

A blank page.

And the decision to start.

Now, seeing my words become books still feels a little surreal.

There are moments when I wonder whether I should share certain pieces of myself.

Some stories feel vulnerable.

Some still hurt.

Some belong to versions of me I barely recognize anymore.

But I also know how powerful it can be to find someone else’s words and think:

Me too.

That feeling is part of why I keep writing.

If one chapter makes someone feel understood… then sharing the story was worth it.

So this journal will be a little bit of everything.

Motherhood.

Grief.

Books.

Behind-the-scenes pieces of my writing life.

Lessons I’m still learning.

Memories I never want to lose.

And probably a few thoughts written late at night with a coffee nearby and far too many tabs open on my computer.

This is Willow & Words.

And I think, in many ways, I’m still discovering what it will become right alongside you.
