What I Hope My Children Remember

By Kennedy Tessier

When I think about legacy, I often think about my four children. I wonder which little moments will stay with them as they grow older.

Will they remember the ordinary evenings, the stories, the kitchen conversations, or the times we laughed over something silly? Will they remember that our home was not always tidy, but it was filled with love?

I hope they remember that trying matters, that kindness matters, and that they never have to be perfect to be worthy of love. I hope they learn that it is okay to dream big and also okay to slow down.

Losing my dad has made me think about the things we carry from the people we love. Often, they are not things at all. They are sayings, habits, stories, and the feeling of being cared for.

That is part of why I wrote Built With Purpose. I wanted to put into words something I hope my children—and anyone who reads it—will remember: the way we love people in ordinary moments can become our most lasting legacy.
