Some days grief is quiet. Other days it arrives without warning.
It might be a song, a date on the calendar or a memory that catches you in the middle of an ordinary afternoon. I have learned that missing someone does not follow a schedule. There is no point at which love simply stops because enough time has passed.
Writing about my dad helped me put words around some of those feelings. It did not make every difficult day disappear, and I would never pretend that it did. What it gave me was a way to honour memories and make room for both sadness and gratitude.
People sometimes expect grief to look a certain way. But it can include laughter, anger, relief, exhaustion, tenderness and moments of happiness. You can build a beautiful life and still deeply miss someone who should be part of it.
If you are carrying loss, I hope you allow yourself to remember without judging how you feel. You do not have to turn grief into a lesson or a success story. Sometimes loving someone and continuing to speak their name is enough.
