The Memories We Carry With Us

Some memories live in photographs. Others live in the way we tell a story.

I think about the expressions people use, the places they loved and the little routines we hardly noticed at the time. After losing my dad, those details became especially precious. They are reminders that a person’s influence can continue through the people who knew them.

That is one reason storytelling matters so much to me. Built With Purpose is not only about looking backward. It is also about considering what we carry forward. The patience someone taught us, the humour we inherited or the courage we saw in a difficult season can become part of how we live.

You do not have to write a book to preserve a legacy. Ask a family member about their childhood. Record a favourite recipe. Print a photograph. Write down the story behind an object you have kept for years. These small acts create connections between generations.

I hope we all make a little more room for stories while we have the chance to hear them. One day, the ordinary details may be exactly what someone wishes they could ask about again.
