The Ordinary Moments I Want to Remember

Kennedy Tessier | Author

Some of the moments I most want to remember would never have seemed important enough to write down when they happened.

A familiar voice in the next room. A conversation during a drive. The way someone always answered the phone. A child asking a question while I was halfway through doing something else.

Life is full of details we assume will stay clear forever.

Then time moves forward. Our children grow. People we love are no longer here to repeat the stories. We find ourselves wishing we could step back into an ordinary afternoon for just a few minutes.

Writing gives me somewhere to keep those details.

I don’t need every memory to become a polished chapter. Sometimes, it is enough to record a sentence, a phrase someone used, or the feeling of being in a particular place with a particular person.

That attention to everyday life sits close to the heart of Built With Purpose: Finding Legacy in the Ordinary Moments. I keep coming back to the ways our lives touch one another through small, repeated acts of love.

A meal made. A promise kept. A person who showed up.

If you want to begin recording your own memories, start with one ordinary moment you would be sad to forget. Write down who was there, what you heard, and why it stays with you.

You may discover that you already have the beginning of a story.

Explore Built With Purpose: Finding Legacy in the Ordinary Moments, and consider what you want to preserve from your own life.
